Lucky 13 seems like an oxymoron, especially when you consider there’s an actual phobia: Triskaidekaphobia.
But I personally encountered no fear as I prepared to celebrate the firm’s 13th anniversary.
My goal was to mark the occasion on individual, office and community levels, thereby acknowledging everyone who contributed to this milestone occasion. The individual plan was focused on the staff, without whom success would be elusive. It was satisfying to personally thank each staff member for their work and provide them with a gift from the firm. CrepeMaker Inc. catered our official GLG internal celebration, with choices of savory or sweet crepes. It was the perfect way for the office to join together in celebration of “Lucky 13.” The firm also made donations in honor of our anniversary to the American Diabetes Association and Honor Flight, two charities dear to our heart.
As I reflect back on GLG’s inception, I realize it was truly a bold move to open my own firm. I was already a partner at a Miami practice and did not come from an entrepreneurial background. But I took the plunge and never looked back.
My biggest challenge, as managing partner of the firm, is the lack of a textbook on how to run a law practice. How do you keep clients happy? When do you add a new partner? Is there a best time to expand your business? It’s an ongoing learning curve.
I am ready to face future challenges and further impact the legal niche in which we’ve established success. The plan is to continue our methodical growth, hiring the best lawyers and top-notch paralegals. And, most importantly, continue to exceed client expectations.
